Shocking exit for Federer

36 straight quarter final streak in grandslams ended.

Shocked by the served and volley game.

Federer-Stokhvosky

Stakhovsky made it. He never done before.

Looks like another Rosol.

all expected for Fedal quarters and happened like this.

firs break of serve came in 3rd set 11th game. That’s too much quality in services from two players.

“I’m still in disbelief that actually happened. Magic. Beating Roger on his court where he is a legend is special. He’s the greatest player, the biggest name, and a decent man everyone admires. I couldn’t play any better. I played my best tennis and still it was almost not enough to beat Roger Federer. When you play him at Wimbledon, you play two people – you play Roger Federer, and then you also play his ego and his Centre Court history. I just hoped he wouldn’t get too far ahead of me so I would have a chance to stay in the match and that’s what happened. I got a little tight in the fourth set but I did everything I needed to and wanted to. I’m incredibly happy” – Stakhovsky

“The 24-hour rule applies. Don’t panic at this point. Go back to work and come back stronger. Usually I do turnarounds pretty good. This is clearly not what I was hoping for here. He was uncomfortable to play against, but I expected serve-and-volley because he often does it. Credit to him for closing it out under enormous pressure. I’m very disappointed I couldn’t find a way to win. I had opportunities, a foot in the door, but I couldn’t do it. I wish [the 36 quarter-finals] were not going to end here but I have no choice other than to accept it and move on. It doesn’t feel like the end of an era for me because I still have plans to play for many more years to come. Some finals haven’t hurt this much. At least having lost I didn’t have to go through a trophy ceremony with this one.” – Roger Federer

Rafa lost to Steve Darcis in first round of Wimbledon

Last year, It was Lukas Rosol who smashed Rafa with his wildest down the line forehand winners. Now it is Steve Darcis who defeated Nadal with his smooth and fine game.

At the beginning of the match I felt that Darcis has week game, he relied on only his quick serve. Weak forehand and backhand. No power in them. But as match progress, he started hitting with power, with confidence. And Nadal played his game quiet normally.

Another upset for Nadal in straight years(Photo : ATP Facebook)

Please don’t say he was not 100% fit. He was able to play his natural game from the beginning of the match. But only thing is , he might be nervous in first round because he didn’t has any match practice after Roland Garros final.

Credit to Steve Darcis, who hold his nerves in the crucial moments and eventually made another upset for Rafael Nadal at wimbledon.

“Nobody was expecting my win today. OK, Rafa didn’t play his best tennis today, but I knew the first match on grass is always difficult…I tried to do what I like to do, come to the net as soon as I can, not play too far from the baseline…I think I did great today…I think I don’t know what to say right now I’m really happy.” – Steve Darcis

“I don’t know! The only thing I can say and I can do is keep working hard and keep giving me chances…I hope to have a few more years to play here and to play at the right level. I was not able to play great this year and last year obviously, but I will try. It’s tough – but life continues. This is a sport of victories, not the losers. Nobody remembers the losers…and I don’t want to remember the loss.” – Rafael Nadal

“In sport these things can happen but it was a surprise.” – Murray on Nadal loss

Meanwhile Murray and Federer reached second round.

Day 1 preview : Roger – Rafa – Murray starting their compaign

Either Rafa or Roger has to defeat 3 top players for the title. But everyone should start it by winning their crucial first rounds. Many top players somewhat struggled in their first rounds. This might be because they are nervous at the starting and the opponent plays aggressive and precision tennis. Generally top seeds will be against qualifiers who has match practice in the last few days, where as top seed players won’t have that, anyway  seeded players will pick up quickly and win easily.
